Job Description

Join the MMS Family — We're Hiring!

Are you a piano & voice teacher who loves people as much as music?

We're looking for someone special — a musician with a teacher's heart who wants to be part of something bigger than a lesson schedule.

McAllister Music Studio has been a home for musicians in San Francisco since 2008. What started with one teacher and one studio has grown into a tight-knit community of students, educators, and music lovers rooted in the Mission District. Our cozy studio at 3280 22nd St houses three teaching rooms and a live performance venue — and it buzzes with real musical life every week.

We're growing, and we want the right person to grow with us.

WHO WE ARE

At MMS, our mission is simple:  Play The Music You Love. We're not just a music school — we're a  community built on the belief that every student deserves a real person in their corner. Someone who listens, who gets them, and who helps them feel safe enough to be creative, take risks, and find their own voice.

Our students range from kids picking up their first instrument and adult beginners finally making time for music, to singer-songwriters, jazz musicians, classical players, producers, improvisers, and artists of every style — and what connects them all is a genuine love of music and teachers who meet them exactly where they are.

We teach the fundamentals  and give students the creative freedom to write their own songs and perform live. Throughout the year, we host open mics, workshops, master classes, and recitals — both in our studio and at beloved SF venues like Bottom of the Hill and Noe Valley Ministry. These moments are the heartbeat of MMS: students stepping into their power, supported by teachers who believe in them, sharing music together in this city we love.

WHO YOU ARE

You're a pianist and vocalist — you can teach both, and you love doing it. You're equally at home guiding a six-year-old through their first songs as you are challenging an advanced adult player to go deeper into their craft. You understand that great music education isn't just about technique; it's about making every student feel seen, safe, and empowered to play the music they love. You meet them where they are, whether they want to play Chopin or write indie folk, and you light up when it suddenly clicks — drawing the threads between the great classics and the music they're obsessed with, and making both feel alive.

You show up on time, communicate clearly, and bring genuine curiosity, warmth, and patience to every lesson. Teaching isn't a placeholder for you — it's the work you're proud to do.

You also want to be part of a team. At MMS, teachers collaborate, train together, and genuinely know each other — because we believe a connected, supported team is what makes students feel connected and supported too.

Please read our “WHO WE ARE” page to see if you are the right fit for this job.
