Position Overview This full‑time position works three, 12‑hour shifts per week from 7:00 am–7:00 pm on a repeating two‑week matrix schedule in the MRI Department. Job Summary As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic in the Imaging Department, you will assist in the delivery of patient care and services to a diverse patient population and their families. Responsibilities include performing EKGs, collecting lab specimens under the direction of a licensed nurse and/or provider, and assisting with patient activities of daily living within unit‑specific limits. You will conduct hourly rounding, complete documentation, report observations and patient problems to nursing staff, and practice Patient and Family Centered Care in alignment with Houston Methodist Experience standards. FLSA Status Non‑exempt Qualifications Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full post‑secondary completion). Completion of an EMT‑A, EMT‑Paramedic program, or licensed Paramedic; alternatively, current participation in an EMT‑to‑Paramedic program with EMT‑Advanced classification. Six months pre‑hospital experience or six months hospital experience as an EMT or Paramedic. Licenses and Certifications: LP – Licensed Paramedic (State Licensure) EMT‑A – Emergency Medical Technician‑Advanced (State Certification) EMT‑P – Emergency Medical Technician‑Paramedic (State Certification) BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Instructor (AHA) NVCRISIS - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Instructor (CPI) Skills and Abilities Demonstrates competency assessments and performance evaluations for safety‑critical tasks. Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English for patient and employee safety. Releases clear communication with patients, physicians, families, and coworkers, showing a customer service focus. Uses judgment in interactions with the interprofessional care team. Strong time‑management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision. Accesses department and hospital‑wide information systems to support care. Competent with computer systems, including electronic health records (Epic) and Microsoft Office. Performs basic EKG interpretation. Applies basic knowledge of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. Service Essential Functions Provides patient‑centered care under a registered nurse’s direction, including documentation of vitals, EKG, phlebotomy, ultrasound‑guided IV, CPR, splinting, specimen collection, immobilization, and extrication. Observes patients with hourly rounds, reports changes to nursing staff, and responds to call lights. Supports department patient‑satisfaction scores through bedside shift handoffs and peer accountability. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Rapidly assesses patients’ severity and risks, identifies abnormal ECGs and vitals, and communicates findings. Manages incoming patient information, follows protocols, and maintains patient privacy. Reports near misses, inputs errors into PSN, and supports initiatives to prevent pressure injuries, falls, and infections. Finance Essential Functions Uses resources efficiently, minimizes waste, and manages time to reduce overtime. Maintains orderly environments, assists with inventory, monitoring, and ordering of supplies. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies. Contributes to performance‑improvement projects and shared governance. Completes and updates the My Development Plan regularly.
